From the word Turmali, the name given to the gems that came from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), it was called “toramalli”, which means colored stone.
No other stone is as sophisticated as Tourmaline, like garnet, is a group of gemstones comprising several species and not a single one with several varieties, such as quartz.
Vitreous, transparent to opaque, there are more than 100 colors: deep green, red, blue, yellow, brown, black, and colorless. Besides its wide variety of colors, one of the most striking features of these gems is the fact that two or more colors you can see in the same crystal.

Tourmaline crystals may have different colors at both ends and a third color at the center. Or they may have a color on the outside and others internally distributed concentrically. It is the case of the popularly known as watermelon tourmaline, which is externally green and red or pink in the center.
