Mais pérolas na pintura...

No Rijksmuseum de Amesterdão encontra-se este belo quadro de Rembrandt de 1639, que retrata uma jovem que se acredita ser Maria Trip ( 1619-1683 ), a filha do milionário Elias Trip, comerciante de trigo , alcatrão e ferro (em Inglaterra e na Alemanha). 

Jovem, ricamente vestida e enfeitada com joias, na sua época, as pérolas quer dos brincos (pelo seu tamanho e forma) quer do colar (pelo tamanho e homogeneidade) eram extremamente difíceis de encontrar e por isso extremamente caras. Muito mais acessíveis, os diamantes dos brincos acentuavam o tom de prata oxidada, em sintonia com as doutrinas calvinistas, em voga à época, de não ostentação da riqueza.

In the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum we can find this beautiful portrait of a young female, made by Rembrandt in 1639. It is believed to "possibly" be Maria Trip (1619-1683), the old daughter of the ultra rich Elias Trip, who made fortune in wheat, tar and iron (from England and Germany). 

She is youthful, incredibly richly dressed and bedecked with jewelry, in her days, a set of large pearls of similar size were extremely difficult to purchase and therefore very costly. The diamonds shown here in the ear were less costly and toned down by giving them a background of blackened silver foil, this in tune with the then current Calvinist tenets of not showing too much wealth.
